Derelict pub plan rejected

Stockport Express - - News -

PLANS to transform a derelict pub into accommodation for 14 people have been rejected.

Blueprints to revamp the Ye Olde Woolpack, at Brinksway, Edgeley were shelved after planning committee members slammed the scheme.

Coun Wendy Meikle said she couldn’t think of a ‘worse’ place to live, adding: “The pub is in a dire state – and it needs to be demolished.

“I cannot support this application because I would hate to think that anyone would live in a place like that.”

Coun Philip Harding agreed, saying: “I’m not going to support it either because I think it would be appalling to live there.”

However, while Coun Brian Bagnall agreed the building was ‘dilapidated’ he argued the application met with planning policy.

“In an ideal world the pub would be knocked down and replaced, but it’s not an ideal world,” he said.

“We might not like or want it, but I haven’t heard a reason to refuse it.”
