Dis­ley ladies raise funds with dou­ble

DIS­LEY Golf Club’s lady cap­tain Irene Fell was de­lighted with a great dou­ble of events that helped raise funds for the Lit­tle Princess Trust.

The first event was their first Sun­day Ladies Open which had amaz­ing prizes with great spon­sor­ship from Hicks Wat­son and some do­na­tions from the play­ers.

The win­ning team was Sarah Beard (Marple), Jane Darcey (Mot­tram Hall) and Ann McCormick (Dis­ley), who each re­ceived a £100 voucher for John Lewis plus a Jo Malone can­dle.

Two days later they held a Char­ity Fash­ion Show which raised £1,170 for the char­ity.

Irene said: “There was a great re­sponse from our own mem­bers and friends and peo­ple from other golf clubs and I would like to thank them for their gen­eros­ity, sup­port along with our own hard-work­ing ladies who put in a lot of time to make both events a big suc­cess along with the spon­sors.”

Irene then led from the front in a 14-hole Stable­ford for Dis­ley ladies with her 31 points tak­ing her three clear of Ann McCormick and Gaynor Calvert.

Win­ter League ac­tion for Dis­ley’s men saw A Cairns and P McCormick win a cpo on 44 points from M Holtom and C Tay­lor, one more than S Dun­lop and J Stu­art.

Avro’s men played a sin­gles Stable­ford for the Cap­tain’s Char­ity and Derek Bell was in a league of his own with 38 points from Michael Thorn­ber, Chris Robin­son and Ian Hall­worth, all 40.

Roy Whal­ley was also a clear win­ner in a sin­gles Stable­ford at Avro with 36 points, five more than Ian Hall­worth and Michael Thorn­ber.

Romi­ley’s men played round 3 of the Win­ter Top Dog OoM and Steve Hegin­botham and An­drew Jack­son were on top with 42 points from Andy Smith and Paul Himsworth 40 and Joe Smith and Richard Manock 37.

The 14-hole Bonnza Stable­ford was won by Chris Broster, Steve Kidd, Ian Ker­shaw and David Skilling­ton with 77 points, four more than Mark Hilton, Richard Hale, Steve Reel and Kevin Ben­nett.

Romi­ley ladies played a 14-hole Waltz and danc­ing to top spot with 50 points were Jackie Purcer, Sharon Di­neen and Louise Meeks from Ros­alind Hale, Judi Dixon and Edith Clarke who won a cpo on 45 from Irene bar­row, Joan Mel­lor and Janet God­frey.

The sec­ond round of the Ju­nior Win­ter League at Romi­ley was won by Leo Downes with 23 points from Aaron Bard­s­ley 16 and Matthew Byle 10.

A nine-hole Stable­ford for Cheadle ladies was won by Jacuie Pop­plewell with 16 points, two more than Chani Gana­tra and Barbara Col­lier.

A Stable­ford for Mel­lor and Town­scliffe ladies was won by Pat Phillips with 33 points, one more than Chris­tine Bartlett.

M and T’s men played a sin­gles Stable­ford in two di­vi­sions and top of divi­sion one with 32 points was Graham Bai­ley from Paul Wilkin­son 30.

In divi­sion two Peter Woodruff was top of the shop with 32 points from John Stock­dale, Stephen Rawl­ings, John Howarth, Peter Holmes and Mark Cur­tis all 30.

The lat­est Manch­ester Al­liance fix­ture at High Legh Park was close in all sec­tions with for­mer Euro­pean Tour stars Grant Hamer­ton (Pike Fold) and Phil Archer (Poul­ton Park), who has again be se­lected for the PGA GB and I team to take on the USA in Greece, tied on 39 points, two more than Ryan O’Neill (Pen­wortham).

Ryan was de­lighted to take top spot in the pro am sec­tion part­ner­ing Stam­ford’s Steve Moores to 45 points.
