Pre-school arson shock

POLICE have appealed for witnesses following an arson attack at a pre-school while it was shut for the Christmas holidays.

Firefighte­rs were called to St Paul’s Pre-school, on Marley Road, Poynton, on Boxing Day at 10.15am.

The roof space of the building had been set alight and four fire crews spent five and a half hours at the scene.

They battled the flames with two hose reels and breathing apparatus before bringing them under control.

An investigat­ion was launched and police have confirmed they are treating the incident as arson.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “After our investigat­ions we are treating the fire at St Paul’s Pre-school as arson.

“If you have any informatio­n or witnessed any suspicious activity in the area then please call.”

In a message on its website the Pre-school said sessions will resume in the primary school building on Monday, January 7, until further notice.
