This one could really turn out to be our year

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

I LOVE this festive time of year, not necessarily the actual “festivities” but the fact that the football comes thick and fast, especially when we’re winning!

After the Alfreton game things could have gone a little flat but Jim and his backroom staff has the team in great shape and they’re showing a real die-hard attitude and team togetherness that’s paying dividends. Altrincham and Kidderminster both paid us a visit over the last week and both left EP with nothing as County weren’t in the mood for giving away any presents.

Altrincham were despatched for the third time this season with one of the best team performances of the season so far, to pick an individual player for the man-ofthe-match award looks impossible as there were so many contenders.

What we saw on the pitch was simply exquisite football. the first goal was a bit scrappy a Kirby/Stott combination (even after watching it several times on the highlights I can’t decide who got the final touch) in a crowded six yard box but the second was sheer quality.

The pass from Pitbull was perfect and the control, movement and shot from Frank was worth the admission alone, poetry in the form of football that left the visitors dumbfounded and pushed us up to fourth in the table.

Next came Kidderminster, one of our boggy teams. There was a bit of man-flu in the camp which meant a couple of changes, we then had Sam Walker substituted very early in the game, at that point a draw might have been considered acceptable but no, not this team.

The boys in blue stood strong, even after a couple of horror tackles (how Sam Minihan was still walking at half time I have no idea) that went unpunished by another weak referee, the lads just got on with the game and grew stronger and stronger.

Kiddy played their ace card and put their big man up front but Jim out trumped them by pushing Sam forward and the added pressure led to a County corner, the ball was delivered to the near post where it was met by the merest of touches from Sam’s head to give us all three points and with other results going our way we end the year, not only in third place but top of the form table as well.

The New Year starts with a couple of crackers, Altrincham again then league leaders Bradford, come on County, it’s our season.
