Long way to see County at their best

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

YOU have to have some sympathy with the handful of Truro supporters who made the 650-mile round trip to EP on Saturday (and just a little relief that we didn’t have to make a return trip on Tuesday night for a replay). To travel all that way and see your team completely turned over is no fun. FOR us though, what a game, what a performance, what a result!

Let’s get one thing right, this was domination from first whistle to last. The Cornishmen turned up, kicked off and that dear reader was as good as it got for the “white tigers.” We went ahead as early as the third minute when Matty Warburton hammered in his and County’s first of the afternoon after some great forward play.

His second in the 18th was a tap in by Matty’s standards while his third just 10 minutes later was similar to the first, great play through the midfield, a neat little pass to the feet and Matty struck home to complete his hat-trick.

Two minutes later Darren Stephenson got in on the act, scoring his second goal in as many games to give the supporters a reminder of how good he actually can be. We’d had several other chances during the first half, Ash Palmer had a header cleared off the line, Adam Thomas and Jordan Keane had shots that went just wide and all the time Frank was making a real nuisance of himself, overall I think Truro were glad the half time whistle came as they were in fear of really being turned over.

The break gave us the chance to catch our breath and wonder just how many more the might County would get in the second.

The second proved to be more a case of keep ball than anything else, Matty netted his fourth in the 65th minute and that was the end to the “goal feast” but we had another 45 minutes of great football to saviour as we continued to dominate the game, are corner count was into double figures, our percentage of possession must have been over 80 per cent and it seemed that the chances on goal came every time we had the ball.

The man of the match award rightly went to Matty if not for the four goals then his work rate but the rest of the team should rightly be proud of themselves, it was a real team effort and shows just how far we’ve come. I bet there’s more than one team left in the draw that wouldn’t want to play us next round.
