Junior and Senior teams show up well in

THE fourth and penultimat­e fixture of the Manchester Area Cross Country League took place at Heaton Park with a good turn out from both the Stockport Juniors and Seniors.

The day got off to a good start with the U11 Boys taking 2nd team overall, led by William Bailey in 3rd place, followed by Isaac Reed and in 7th and Ben Sturgess in 13th.

As usual the U11 Girls dominated the race with Ella Buckley finishing 2nd, Niamh Mackintosh in 5th and Rosie Philbin in 7th meaning that the girls were the fastest team overall.

The U13 Boys couldn’t quite echo the success of their younger counterpar­ts but Harvey Murphy, Joshua Stutchfiel­d and Sam Elliott finished high enough to claim 7th team overall. In the U13 Girls race, Frey Murdoch was knocked from her usual1st place down to 3rd by two competitor­s from Macclesfie­ld. Although it should be noted that Freya finished at the same time as Rebecca Dilworth who took 2nd place. Freya was backed up Sophie Ellwood in 5th place and Saffron Meade in 20th to take 2nd team overall.

Finley Mayoh came 5th in the U15 Boys with teammates Thomas Manton and Harry Ellwood coming 12th and 13th respective­ly. These results put the boys in 2nd team place overall. It was also great to see the U15 Girls fielding a strong team with the likes of Josie Driver, Megan Phillips and Isabel Brundrett who came 5th team overall.

The U17 Men’s race is a more select affair with only 29 competitor­s taking part. Stockport’s Edward Corden is usually seen at the front end of the pack and he didn’t disappoint, managing to
