ADAD has been locked up for reversing over his ex-girlfriend in a Burger King car park.

Daniel Bell, 43, from Poynton, crashed into a bollard outside the fast food chain before backing over the woman, a court heard.

It was ‘a moment of madness’ after he got angry, the judge was told.

Father-of-two Bell, of Spinners Lane, was jailed for eight months at Manchester Crown Court.

Judge Alan Conrad QC said: “The victim suffered extensive bruising and abrasions with some lasting pain.

“Dangerous driving of this sort is too dangerous to overlook.”

Bell earlier pleaded guilty to dangerous driving. He was also driving without a licence or insurance, for which he has been previously convicted. Bell had been in a relationship with the woman between July 2017 and June last year.

Prosecutor Simone Flynn said: “The victim described the relationship as the defendant becoming increasingly controlling.”

The pair maintained communication after their separation in June, and on July 19 Bell turned up at her address in Cheadle uninvited, the court heard.

After a disagreement, she got into Bell’s Volkswagen Golf and he drove to a Burger King in Fallowfield.

Mrs Flynn said: “The defendant was becoming increasingly annoyed and agitated and was driving at speed.

“The complainant felt increasingly uncomfortable by the way the defendant was acting.

“She was scared for her own safety.”

Bell told his ex, a mother of two from a previous partner, that she could not get out of the car.

When she stepped out of the car he reversed at speed and drove over her as she was dragged underneath.

Bell took her to the hospital later that day as she was in severe pain, with bruises all over her body, but she didn’t suffer any internal injuries or fractures.

Chudi Grant, defending, said: “It was admitted wholly and fully in interview and he expressed remorse.”

Describing CCTV footage of the incident as ‘unpleasant’, Mr Grant said: “It was a true moment madness.

“It was a highly impetuous and reckless moment and one that he wishes he could take back.”

Mr Grant also said his client had mental health problems.

Bell was given a 28 months driving ban.
