GP’s apprentice will star in TV adverts
AN apprentice at a GP practice has been chosen as one of the faces of a UK-wide campaign aimed at changing the nation’s view of apprenticeships.
Neil Williams, of Stockport, works at Alvanley Family Practice in Woodley. He has been working with the Department of Education on its 2019 campaign and will soon be appearing on adverts around the country.
The Fire It Up campaign aims to inspire employers to offer apprenticeships and young people to take up the opportunities available. It focuses on the energy and buzz that apprentices can bring to organisations.
Neil, aged 21, started his apprenticeship at the practice, based at Woodley Health Centre on Hyde Road, in 2015, bringing new IT skills which helped create an efficient prescriptions processing system.
He is now on a level 3 qualification, has become a medical terminology expert and leads on clinical coding. He eventually plans to move into a finance support role at the practice.
Neil said: “If I can help people to understand just how good an apprenticeship can be, it’ll be a job well done. In the meantime I’m brushing up on my autograph signing skills.”
Practice manager Kay Keane said: “Neil’s bright, cheerful and a firm favourite, but he also works extremely hard and perseveres when others might not.
“We’re so proud of him and we’re going to see who can spot him over the coming months in adverts.”
