Piasecki pips rival to finish seventh

JESS Piasecki, a wellknown Stockport Harrier, was representi­ng England at the IAAF cross country meeting in Seville.

In a very tense race for seventh position, Jess Piasecki stormed through the line and managed to steal the top spot for England with only one second ahead of Verity Ockenden.

At the indoor athletics in Sheffield there was a silver medal and a PB-equalling jump of 5.74m for Katie Waterworth to open her indoor season properly at the North of England U20 Championsh­ips.

Next stop will be the Scottish Senior Nationals. It was also a very busy weekend for Holly Murray who ended with a silver medal and UK Ranking of second behind a great run from Warrington’s Ashley Nemits as well as a couple of strong runs through the 200m rounds ahead of dropping down to focus on that distance at the Scottish Indoors in Glasgow.

Another exciting race that took place was the Three halls of Stockport run. This event consisted of running or walking to three different halls which approximat­ely can turn out to be a certainly challengin­g 8-11.5 miles as competitor­s plot their own route.

The three halls included in this race was Goyt Hall, Underbank Hall and the famous Vernon Park Museum located on Stockport Harriers home ground, Woodbank Park.

The first harrier to finish this race successful­ly was Stockport’s Andy Fowler who achieved a time of 1.08.39 and placed second overall after Goyt Valley Striders’ Aiden Grant who won in 1.05.03.

The Stockport Women showed great strength and power with Samantha Thomas as the second Stockport Harrier and overall first lady to storm through the line with an impressive time of 1.10.05.

This was closely followed by Louise Geldart who was the second overall lady to power to the finish with a brilliant time of 1.12.32. Lisa capes was the third lady to cross the line, achieving a time of 1.17.13.
