WELL, what a week to be a County supporter! Two very contrasting games but still two victories for Jim Gannon and his team.

The first game, on Tuesday night was the FA Trophy replay at Maidstone where we ran out 3-0 winners in a totally one sided affair while the second, at home to Spennymoor, saw the mighty County put themselves firmly in line for the one automatic promotion place.

The Trophy replay was played in front of a largely, subdued home support, they’d hardly had a home win all season but after the draw at EP on the previous Saturday you’d have thought they would have fancied their chances.

As it was we dominated the game and grew stronger with every minute played.

Changes were made and none of them disappointed, Jake Kirby thoroughly deserved his start and justified it with two very well taken goals.

Jordan Keane netted the third late on but by then the home side looked dead and buried.

Even though they are struggling at the foot of the National League, I think we claimed a decent scalp to add to Yeovil and Harrogate that we took earlier, that shows that when we do get promoted, we won’t be out of our depth.

That promotion challenge took another huge step forward on Saturday when we completed the double over near rivals Spennymoor.

It was, as any neutral will tell you, a good game of football, either team could have taken the points.

Both keepers proved their worth without having a lot to do, the game was a midfield battle, there was dogged determination and no little skill from both sides but it was County that ran out victors after Sam Walker delivered a killer free kick from 35 yards that deceived every player on the pitch, including Matthew Gould in the visitors net, as the ball found its way into the bottom corner to send the majority of the 6,311 crowd into ecstasy.

Whatever team Jim puts out looks capable of winning, the strength of our team, our bench, our squad looks to be full of skill and ability, a set of players that believe in each other and are determined to take this division.

It’s in our hands now with 10 games to go (before Boston on Tuesday) there’s bound to be a few twists and turns but whose going to back against County now?
