Blossoms announce their biggest show yet

- EMILY HEWARD stockportexpress@menmedia.co.uk @stockportnews

JUST a few years ago, the biggest venue Blossoms had ever played was the Edgeley scaffolding yard where they rehearsed.

Since then the Stockport band’s meteoric rise has seen them sell out ever-bigger venues including their hometown’s Edgeley Park stadium this summer.

Now they’re announcing their biggest headline show to date, at Manchester Arena on Saturday March 28, 2020.

Frontman Tom Ogden said: “It’s another one of them surreal moments. When we started the band they seem like your wildest dreams. The bigger you get, they slowly become a reality.

“Every now and again it’ll hit you, like when you drive past somewhere where we used to play, or hear songs from that era that take you back. It’s good to reflect and realise how far you’ve come. It’s very easy to constantly look forwards and get caught up in it all, but it’s astonishing to look back at how far we’ve come.”

The band have played the 15,500-capacity arena several times, opening for acts including The Libertines as well as performing at the venue’s official reopening concert with Noel Gallagher and the Courteeners following the terror attack there in 2017.

And they’ve already proved themselves to be a bona fide stadium act with their show at their beloved Stockport County’s ground in June, supported by The Coral, The Blinders, Cabbage and Fuzzy Sun.

“It felt like a proper celebration - of the town, of us as a band - and one of them moments that everyone in the area will remember,” said Tom.

“There were kids there who weren’t even 10, on their dads’ shoulders, enjoying it. It was one of those days that will last long in everyone’s memories. That’s what it was for us.”

Next year’s tour promises to be ‘bigger, bolder and better than it’s ever been before’, with a set drawing from their new album Foolish Loving Spaces, which is due out in January.

Fans can expect more of the Talking Heads influence of lead single Your Girlfriend - with a euphoric, gospel sound to some of the 10 tracks.

“It’s a celebration of love and still with that Talking Heads vibe, a bit Primal Scream in places,” said Tom. It’s a bit more euphoric and bigger; we’ve got gospel singers in on a few songs.”

Tickets go on sale on Friday, October 11 - and if it’s anything like their last few shows they’ll be snapped up quickly.

“I’m quite pessimistic with stuff like that - I think no one’s going to come if it’s raining,” says Tom.

“Everyone else is confident and we wouldn’t be booking it if we didn’t think we could do it, and the last few gigs - especially in Manchester they’ve all gone. We always love doing something extra special in Manchester.”

The general sale opens at 9am.
