Bramhall boost for The Christie

BRAMHALL Lady Captain Caroline McGeorge set up a very busy day for the club’s ladies to raise funds for her chosen charity – The Christie.

Her target was for the ladies to play 1,500 holes of sponsored golf between 6am and 6pm.

Despite a wet and miserable start to the day 1257 holes were played in the morning and 465 in the afternoon sunshine for a total of 1722.

There was also a quiz to guess the total number of Stableford points scored on the day and together with donations, a cake stall, a greetings card sale, raffles.tombola and sponsorshi­p and the total raised on the day was a fantastic £6,068 with more sponsorshi­p money to come.

For fun the ladies dressed up in some interestin­g costumes on the theme of ‘alternativ­e sports’ with the winners being ‘The Skivers’ – Gill Gee, Sandra Short, Kate Sumner and Jean Hindmoor.

The main competitio­n was won by Vicky Clewley, Frances Gell, Jan Johnston and Rosa Sheard with 118 points and guessing the number of points scored2488­was Lynn Grant.

There were some superb raffle prizes donated including a diamond necklace worth over £1000 by jeweller David Robinson.

The target of 1500 holes was smashed at about 5.30pm for an emotional moment for the Lady Captain whose dream had come true on both countsthe success of the golf and the wonderful amount raised.

It was a truly memorable day where all the ladies pulled together led by the vision of Caroline, her committee and all of the ladies who manned the stalls plus the great enthusiasm of all who took part which rounded off by a lasagne supper and few glasses of wine with Caroline able to thank all for their great support.

Bramhall ladies were in medal action and topping the four divisions were Rosemarie Horton 74, Gill Hunt after a cpo on 81 with Brenda Bruce and Vicki Clewley, Sandra Smith 77 and Jean McGrail 79.

Bramhall’s men played the Gold medal final in four divisions and they were topped by Jack Withington 68, Ian Schofield 69, David Turnbull 69 and Alan Fendall 72.

The Gold Medal Aggregate was won by Jack Withington 141 two less than Liam Mann and Brad Wilson.

The Nevill Cup final for Bramall Park’s men had a string of hot scores led in by Bernard Palmer 62 from Andy Buckels 64 and Chris Fensom 66.

Park’s ladies played a Pairs Foursomes and top of the shop were Pat Philp and Jean Nield after a cpo on 38 points with P Hulme and L Whittle.

The Members Cup at Hazel Grove was won by Peter Hadfield with 68 two less than Matthew Bonner, Daniel Seabridge and David Ashworth.

Grove’s ladies played a medal and top of the three divisions were Christine Jones 77, Loranne Harrison 75 and Louise Enderby 89.

Avro seniors were in Stableford action with Tony Mullin winning a cpo on 33 from Leslie Fowler, three more than Ian Arthur.

The P Lightfoot Trophy at Avro was won by Phil Normanton with his neat 67 taking him four clear of Michael Thornber and Ian Hallworth.

Houldswort­h ladies played a Stableford for the George Arnold Trophy and the proud winner with 33 points was Editha Sellars from Audrey Somers 28.

Medal action for Houldswort­h’s men saw Danny McCoy red hot in division one with 67 from Wayne Doyle 72.

Division two was topped by Steven Harding 70 and the division three star was Russel Toye 69.

A Midweek medal at Marple was won by Mark Rolinson with 66 from Paul Thorley 67 and Michael Buckley Colin Blease, both 68.

Marple ladies were in medal mode and Linda Rogers led in with 74 from Elaine Jones 76 and Sarah Beard 78.

A medal for Reddish Vale ladies was won by Jeanette Kinder with 79 ahead of Sheila Cowlard 82 and Marilyn Woodcock 86.

A Wednesday Stableford for Vale’s men had the divisions won by Martin Holt after a cpo on 39 with Paul Temple, John Seaton 37 and Paddy Weadick after a cpo on 35 with Andrew Mackenzie.

The sixth round of the Joey Jones Cup at Vale was won by Philip Reeves after a cpo on 36 points with Geoff Loughin.

The McIntyre medal at Stockport was won by Mike Taylor after a cpo on 71 with Darren Whiteley, two less than Daniel Storey. and
