Nomads at home in Staffordshire

- DES HINKS

THERE must be something in the Staffordshire air that appeals to Cheadle Heath Nomads as, for the second time in just ten days, a trip down the M6 to face Abbey Hulton United ended in victory.

Following a comfortable 3-1 League victory, Saturday’s success, in the PlayerMatch.com Cup, was a hard-fought affair, with the Claret & Blues needing a second half goal from skipper Rick Tindall to ease through to round three.

Ash Stott, in a rich vein of form, had given Andy Gray’s side a sixth minute lead which was cancelled out by John Bowden, nine minutes before the break, before Tindall capitalised on a great through ball from Ashley Crank to net the winner 20 minutes from time.

Nomads reward for beating Abbey Hulton is a mouth-watering derby at Wythenshawe Town in round three. The game at Ericstan Park will take place on November 23.

The victory extended Nomads’ unbeaten run to four games and Gray underlined the importance of building on the momentum. He said: “We are now unbeaten in four games and have won the last two so it’s important that we keep this momentum going.

“With cup games against 1874 Northwich and Congleton Town coming up, October will be a really exciting time for us.”

Before then, though, Nomads are back in League action this Saturday, (Oct 12), when St Martins make the journey to SK8 from Shropshire. Kick-off time at the Proseal Stadium is 3pm.

Cheadle Heath Nomads hugely popular Bonfire Night will take place at their stadium on Norbreck Avenue, SK8 2ET, on Friday, November 1.
