Human remains found in country park
AMAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a woman. Police were called to Reddish Vale Country Park at around 10.30am on Monday, to reports that a member of the public had found human remains. An investigation has been launched. Police have described it as ‘an isolated incident’.
Officers say that following enquiries, they believe that the remains belong to a woman in her 40s.
Her next of kin have been informed but formal identification has not yet taken place.
A 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
He remains in police custody for questioning.
There was a significant police presence in the park, and on a number of surrounding streets.

Detective Superintendent Neil Jones, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “This is an absolutely devastating incident.
“First and foremost, our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones and specialist officers will do everything they can to support them.
“Understandably, this news may cause concern within the community but I would like to provide some reassurance by saying that, at this time, we believe that this was an isolated incident.
“Nevertheless, there will be increased patrols in the area in the coming days and I would encourage anyone with concerns to speak to those officers.
“Our investigation is in the early stages and, whilst a suspect is in custody being questioned, I would like to use this opportunity to appeal to anyone with information which may assist us with our enquiries to get in touch without delay.”
There was a large police presence on the Lapwing Lane on Tuesday morning with the road into the park blocked off at both ends.
Detectives have been working on a large area overnight, including surrounding streets.
