Man is charged with attempted murder over ‘stabbing in woodland’

Three people injured in incident were rushed to hospital

AMAN has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged stabbing in woodland.

Officers were called to a wooded area off The Fairway in Offerton following an alleged incident.

Joshua Hallows, 21, of Warren Road, Cale Green, has been charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Three people were injured during the incident, which happened near Castle Hill High School.

Police have now confirmed that a 17-year-old boy and two men, aged 21 and 22, were detained and taken to hospital.

They remain there with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatenin­g.

A large number of police vehicles were parked up outside the school late into the evening.

An air ambulance was also spotted leaving the scene.

Detectives have now confirmed that the incident was not linked to the school in any way.

It has been described as ‘isolated’ and there is said to be no risk to the community.

He has been remanded in custody and was due to appear at Stockport Magistrate­s’ Court on (Monday, September 7).

The full Greater Manchester Police statement read: “A man has been charged following a stabbing in woodland in Offerton, Stockport.

“Joshua (09/11/98) Road, Cale Stockport,

Hallows of Warren Green in has been charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of grievous bodily harm with intent.

“He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Stockport Magistrate­s today (Monday 7 September 2020).

“At 4.35pm on Tuesday 1 September 2020, police were called to reports of a stabbing in woodland off The Fairway,Offerton.

“Those injured received non-life-threatenin­g injuries.”

Police are also appealing for anyone with informatio­n about the attack to come forward.

Chief Inspector Helen Smith, of GMP’s Stockport district, said: “This incident has left three people in hospital - thankfully, their injuries are not believed to be life threatenin­g and they are all expected to make full recoveries.

“We know and understand that this incident has caused concern but I would like to use this opportunit­y to reassure members of the public that we believe: that this was an isolated incident; that we have identified all of those involved and that there is no risk to the community.

“I would also like to stress that this is not in any way linked to the nearby school.
