●● COUNCIL could pay for new rail operator to run trains on line from Rose Hill to Manchester set for 13-week closure:
Martyn Guiver: Metrolink is on the long term plans.
Rose Hill to Bredbury shared infrastructure then passive provision after Bredbury already made in planning for it to head through Brinnington to Stockport. Charley Ashbury: Used to work this line as a conductor, hate to say it but should have been converted fully to Metrolink years ago. If it wasn’t for the Bredbury binliner trains, there is little/no freight meaning it couldn’t be done. Neil Derbyshire: The very last thing we want in Marple are the trams. Charley Ashbury: So what’s the alternative? Carry on using 1980s Pacers and Sprinters which do nothing to attract car users, especially for local suburban journeys? Neil Derbyshire: Well slow trams without toilets and on which you can’t take a bike are certainly not an answer. Gordon Powrie: You’ll be very unlucky to get a pacer on any line now. Most have been withdrawn. Adelle Rose Walls: Maybe its time to try a parry people mover as a solution? Or maybe Metrolink could go all out with an extension from Ashton (it would be great if they also extended northwards to Oldham on the old O,A &GB trackbed too).
