Volleyball team set for the big time

VOLLEYBALL

IT’S a sport that is often more associated with warmer climates and beaches, a minority sport in England – but Stockport Volleyball Club, affectionately known as “the S’PORT” is making it big.

The Men’s team, who play in the elite National Volleyball League (NVL), are aiming for promotion to the top tier, the Super League, this season.

There has been a phenomenal rise to prominence with Stockport securing two consecutive promotions since joining the NVL in 2017. This season the squad is showing loyalty to players that have played their part in this meteoric rise, supplementing them with home grown junior players and recruits from Poland and Latin America.

The club plays fixtures from November at Brinnington Park Leisure Complex with a superb partnership with Life Leisure. Volleyball is destined to continue its growth curve in the Borough, with Stockport Women also joining the NVL this Year, after clinching the Greater Manchester League title pre-lockdown. An academy for juniors has been established and community sessions and holiday camps catering for beginners to experienced participants are available.

Whilst spectators can attend the matches in Brinnington on Saturdays with free admission within social distancing measures as advised by the Venue, the digital footprint is expanding also with latest analytics showing engagement in excess of 4,000 on one daily post with interest in the S’PORT brand from UK and overseas.

This is a positive story and one indeed that Stockport can be justifiably proud of. The club does need a couple of areas to be highlighted and is looking for the right ‘partners’ as the journey continues.

Firstly, they would like a minibus for this ambitious season. They have a qualified driver, will pay all fuel, organise any livery and branding at their own cost, pay insurance - and in return promote the partnership as well as the Founder’s company, ACROBAT FCSM, offering free marketing support. This is only for weekend usage circa twenty trips a Year.

In addition, with costs spiralling and income curtailed with COVID 19, Stockport Volleyball Club is keen to identify a Main Sponsor. This could involve a bespoke package of benefits, brand promotion and publicity, naming rights (as for example IBB has done with Polonia (London) who play in Super League and are competing in European Competitions) etc. Contact chairman Adrian Stores for more details on 07831 713003 or adrian@stockport volleyball.com.
