Town on Covid alert as cases rise

- RESIDENTS warned as area becomes hotspot - see page nine.

STOCKPORT was released from tighter Greater Manchester lockdown restrictions earlier in September.

From September 2, residents in the borough were once again allowed to socialise in groups of up to two households indoors.

It brought the rules in Stockport in line with the rest of the UK.

The relaxation also meant businesses such as bowling alleys were able to reopen, with closecontact beauty services being able to resume.

Unlike other parts of Greater Manchester, the coronavirus infection rate in Stockport had remained relatively low.

However it is now currently on ‘amber’ alert and has seen its number of cases creep up in recent weeks.

People in Stockport must abide by the ‘rule of six’ which was introduced on Monday (September 14) - making it illegal for more than six people anywhere in England to socialise in any setting.

Those who break the rules can be dispersed by police and be issued with a fine - which start at £100 and will double for each further offence up to £3,200.

What are the latest lockdown rules in Stockport? The main points are:

Households can mix indoors - but this should be no more than two households. In this situation, anyone in your support bubble counts as one household. You should, however, continue to maintain social distancing with anyone you do not live with or who is not in your support bubble when doing so.

Residents are advised to try to limit the number of people you see, especially over short periods of time and to not hold or attend celebrations where it is difficult to maintain social distancing and avoid close social interaction. You should also try to access a private garden externally where possible and avoid using toilets in other people’s homes.

You can also stay overnight in someone else’s home but again, you should ensure you maintain social distancing with anyone you do not live with or who is not in your support bubble.

If you are wanting to go out to a bar, restaurant, or other public space you should only meet one other household if you are seated indoors.

If outdoors, you can meet in groups of up to six people who you do not live with or who are not in your support bubble. Or you can also meet people in groups of more than six people if everyone is exclusively from two households.
