Maths teacher’s fine round adds up to M&T victory

MELLOR and Townscliff­e Lady Captain Vicky Parry and Lady President Kate Smith hosted a special weekend of competitio­ns at their beloved club.

The Men’s medal competitio­n saw Maths teacher Darren Lytham get his sums right to post a fine 76-11=65 nett to take top spot in division one.

In division two Alexander Walsh did even better with a card of 91-27=64.

In the ladies competitio­n Cheshire star Lauren Jones showed her class with a superb 73-2=71 which included 16 pars and one birdie, but it was only just enough to beat Pat Phillips on a cpo on the back nine holes.

Cheshire Boys u16 team showed the depth of young talent in the county as they pulled off a great win over mighty Yorkshire at York Golf Club.

The White Rose boys showed that they meant business as they led by 3.5-2.5 in the morning foursomes with the Cheshire points being secured with wins for Daniel Hayes (Bramhall) and Oliver Johnson (Delamere Forest) and Daniel Myers (Reddish Vale) and Doug Christophe­r (Styal) plus a half for Cameron Walker (Caldy) and Spencer Davies (Wallasey).

Yorkshire added to their lead with two wins in the first three matches in the afternoon singles with Ben Currie (Withington) keeping Cheshire in touch.

Then followed a flood of seven victories for Cheshire from Todd McKie (Eaton), Daniel Myers, Jack Bent (Bramhall), Cameron Walker, Charlie Hayton (Delamere Forest) Oliver Johnson and Doug Christophe­r backed by a half from Spencer Davies before a 2/1 defeat for Eoin Curwen (Bramall Park) saw the final result be a convincing 11-7 win for Cheshire.

A Midweek Stableford at Bramall Park had Martin Belshaw out on his own with a rich haul of 44 points taking him clear of Haseeb Khan and Peter Corrigan, both 40.

It was close in the 9-hole Stableford with a cpo on 17 points going in favour of Captain John Sullivan from Gordon Dickson and Graham Haslam.

In a junior Stableford Thomas Day posted a fantastic 48 points to win from Harry Graveney 41 and James Donohue 34.

Park’s Lady Captain’s Day was won by Judy Read with 37 points from Jo Coutts 35 and Donna MacIntosh, Pat Phillips and Sue Carless, all 34, with the 9- hole winner being Ros Miller with 14.

A Stableford for Hazel Grove ladies was won by Gillian O’Meara with 30 points, two more than Louise Hayden, Maureen Silcock and Karen Lindsay.

A junior medal at Grove was led in by Ben Greenall with 68 two less than Oliver Coleman.

Grove Seniors were in Stableford action and David Seed was untouchabl­e with 33 points, six more than Mar Saxon and Carl Skepper.

It needed a cpo on 68 to see James Morris win the President’s Prize to the Wednesday section from Ian Barwell.

Houldswort­h’s men also needed a cpo on 68 to see Steven Richardson win the Monthly Challenge final from Marshall Lally.

The second round of the Seniors Trophy at Houldswort­h again needed a cpo on 68 to see Jake McGurk home from Stuart Jackson.

Houldswort­h ladies were in medal mode and Deborha Hewitt won a cpo on 74 from Elizabeth Fallows, one less than Christina Fleetwood.

A Seniors Stableford at Avro was led in by club legend Vic Tarr with 40 points, well clear of Leslie Fowler 35 and Mark Brookes 33.

Midweek Stableford at Avro with Ian Arthur winning a cpo on 39 from Neil Flood, one more than Stephen Callaghan.

A Midweek medal at Marple saw Daniel Thomas win a cpo on 64 from Simon McBride with Glyn Hague a shot off the hot pace.

More good scoring at Marple in the medal for the JH Pilkington Trophy with Mark Oldfield first past the post with 63 from Jack Miller 64 and Cornelius Musanda 65.

Marple ladies played for the Millenium Trophy and Sarah Beard was a clear winner with 72 from Linda Rogers 76 and Pauline Davies and Janet Healy, both 80.

Reddish Vale ladies played for the Bernard Murry Stableford and it was won by Jeanette Kinder with 29 points, 12 more than Linsy Warburton.

Vale’s Wednesday section were in medal action with the three divisions topped by BJJ Goulding 65, Steven Cole 67 and Paul Taylor 69.

The popular Reddish Vale Open was led in by Harry Cartwright with 65 from Vaughan Stott 67 and

Paul Gregory 68.

There was some solid scoring in a midweek Stableford at Stockport led in by George Valentine with 42 points from Dillon McPhee 41 and Andrew Given 40.

A BB Stableford for Stockport ladies was won at a canter by J Sanders and J Carter with 44 points from Karen Desai and J Carey 39.
