Call for urgent return of services at rail station
LIBERAL Democrats are now calling on rail operator Northern to reinstate the Rose Hill line service as soon as possible - following a successful campaign to keep a service operating on the ‘vital route’.
Coun Lisa Smart, Lib Dem spokesperson for Hazel Grove and councillor for Bredbury Green and Romley, said: “I am delighted that a decision has been taken not to close the Rose Hill line this autumn, acknowledging the strength of local feeling against closure, and the school time services will be welcomed by those who have returned to school this month.
“This is predominantly a commuter line, however, and Northern’s timetable does nothing to enable local residents to return from Manchester in the evening peak, which is going to force more people into cars and lead to further congestion.
“Residents have told me that the initial timetable is just not good enough and I have therefore written to Northern today, highlighting the urgent need for an evening return service and calling for a return to the full timetable as soon as possible.”
