WE MUST ALL PLAY OUR PART

-

I WAS interested to read Mr Lawson’s response to my article on Stockport Council’s climate action strategy.

Naturally, I am disappointed that he appears not to support the action being taken here in Stockport to combat climate change. It’s easy to snipe, less easy to act.

Of course urgent action is needed to combat climate change and local residents should be at the heart of any plan.

That’s why I strongly support the Climate Action Now strategy which sets out practical steps that will make a real difference in the Borough.

As I said in my article, this will only work if we all play our part.

Stockport Council is, of course, a minority Labour administration, and so working across party lines in the Council Chamber to achieve any change is necessary.

I’m quite sure a majority Labour administration could - and would - be even bolder in this agenda.

Perhaps Mr Lawson should be pushing those who don’t subscribe to climate action rather than those who do?

There are opportunities to evolve and improve the strategy, but I am confident that it will achieve an awful lot more if we pull in the same direction rather than sniping from the sidelines. Andrew Gwynne Labour MP for Denton and Reddish
