Sudden snow flurry leads to major pile-up

-

A ‘SUDDEN flurry of snow’ led to a multivehicle pile up on the M60, police said.

Nobody was seriously injured during the crash on the anti-clockwise carriageway.

But the collision caused chaos on the motorway for a couple of hours after 11 vehicles became caught up in it.

Police blamed a sudden and unexpected bout of bad weather for the smash – which happened at around 8.10am on Saturday morning, April 10, close to junction 25 at Brinnington.

The North West Motorway Police tweeted: “A sudden flurry of snow in the Manchester area has caused numerous RTC’s. The M60 A/C/W is currently being closed at Junction 25.”

Emergency services were scrambled to the scene and there were long delays for motorists. By 10.30am the road had been cleared.

An air ambulance landed nearby as a precaution but was not needed, police said.
