Pupil’s song on Apple Music and Spotify
A 16-YEAR-OLD student has released her debut single, This Time.
Lily Bristow, who attends Bramhall High School, has released the song on Apple Music and Spotify.
Music student Lily produced the song alongside her teacher Mr Pickton.
Lily said: “I was just sat on my little keyboard at home and I started playing around with some chords. I ended up writing nearly half the song in the space of 10 or 15 minutes.
“I took it to my music teacher at school and he got his laptop out and we started playing around with the song.
“Eventually, over the few months of lockdown, it became something we both worked on. I was like why not release it? We’ve gone through all this effort.”
What started as a simple acoustic song in Lily’s bedroom was turned into a more upbeat pop song with Mr Pickton’s help and Lily says the song has a personal message.
“The message I want to get across to everyone is that if someone has left your life and then expects to come back in you’re almost going ‘no,’” Lily said.
“You left me, this is the last time because you can’t keep walking in and out. It’s almost standing your ground.
“It’s taken from a few examples of what’s happened to me previously - I think it’s something everyone can relate to.”
Lily, who lives with parents Renate and Graham and siblings Eleanor and George, says she has always been musical - either by playing the guitar to her brother or attending musical theatre classes.
She started writing her own songs three years ago using a ukulele or piano and says the support she has received for ‘This Time’ has been amazing.
“When I put it out there I did go in with the mindset of thinking that people will take the mick,” she said.
“But nobody has said anything bad, everyone’s streamed it and shared it.
“I was so scared to just put it out there. I genuinely couldn’t have done it without support from everyone.”
