Iddon leads after win at Knockhill
VISIONTRACK Ducati racer Christian Iddon, from Stockport, secured a win in the latest round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Knockhill in Scotland and heads the Championship table.
Iddon won the opening race of the weekend as the Championship made it’s annual trip North of the border. Christian continued his run of good form from Oulton Park where he secured a trio of second placed finishes, qualifying second on the grid alongside Oulton race winner Jason O’Halloran [Yamaha].
Another, now trademark, great start saw Christian claim the lead on the opening lap, and despite losing it briefly on lap six, he was back in front again by lap eight and never looked back, claiming victory by threetenths of a second from Australian, O’Halloran.
Speaking to Visiontrack Ducati, Iddon said; “I’m delighted to get the win especially so early in the season. It’d been a bit of a strange day as I hadn’t quite got the feeling with the bike I was looking for although it’s doing what I wanted it to do.
“I had a lack of sensation at certain places on the track where I’d been strong in the past, but the good thing is that our form is good and we’re improving all the time. I learned a bit more when Danny [Buchan] was ahead of me and had a small change to make for [race two and three] which should help us further.”
In both races two and three, Iddon faced tough opposition from the super-competitive BSB grid. A four-way challenge for the lead led to multiple race leaders in both races, but with two fourth placed finishes Iddon claimed enough points to grab the Championship lead as the series left Scotland for Brands Hatch, in Kent, in a fortnights time.
Christian added; “I struggled a bit in the first race today when the bike had a full fuel load, and I wasn’t riding as smoothly as I had been.
“I made a few mistakes and got mugged on the last lap which meant I ended up fourth, but the second race was a lot better. I was in the mix throughout and my pace was good but there were some sizeable moves, and I lost a couple of places.
“But I felt good and regained some of those places quite quickly only for the red flag to come out.
“It was a shame as I felt the race was coming to me and I felt confident of a podium if the race had gone the full distance. With a win and two fourths, I’ve taken a good haul of points and it’s obviously great to be leading the championship.”
