Hatters family at home on Bergara Close

- IAN BROWN Avenue, Chadderton, Oldham OL9 8EB

SUPPORTERS Cooperative Board members and fans met outside what once was the entrance to Booth Street Car Park on Saturday to mark the welcome arrival of `Bergara Close’.

The Cooperative were there to meet Councillor Sheila Bailey who had been instrumental in getting the Bergara Close name established for the only road into the fantastic new housing development just a stone’s throw from Edgeley Park, and expressed her delight at seeing the signage in place.

The group, which also included Councillor Matt Wynne and `Man From Uruguay’ author Phil Brennan, were joined by Danny’s daughter Ellen who had travelled from Sheffield.

Ellen made it clear that she wanted to be here to thank County supporters, and the group were made up when she read out a text sent by Danny`s widow Jan which read: “I just want to say a huge thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to all the wonderful, faithful supporters who stood by Danny through thick and thin, and never abandoned him, as he always stood by you until his end.

“A big thank you to Stockport Council and ALL who made this possible.

“Danny said when Simon’s second daughter was born that that would be the end of the Bergara name in England. Well, it will now live on! Thank you again. Jan Bergara.”

The occasion did wonders to boost the Cooperative’s determination to press on and get Danny’s statue sited outside Edgeley Park.
