Greens book a final slot after earlier game

-

UNFORTUNATELY the Greens 1st XI game against Northwich was cancelled due to Covid cases in the Northwich camp.

They will be away to Kingsley next Saturday, wickets pitched at 1pm.

The Greens 2ndXI travelled to Styal and on winning the toss skipper Tom Littler opted to bat – first opening the innings with himself and Brad Holme against the Styal opening attack of Glisher and Kumar. After only 10 overs the score was 82-0 with Littler the main protagonist.

Holme was the first to fall for 41 when he struck a ball firmly to point and the fielder took an excellent low catch, 129-1.

Next to the crease was youngster Jake Skelton and after a slow start he joined in the fun.

Unfortunately with the score on 210 Littler danced down the track missed the ball and was stumped off the bowling of Daniels for an excellent 129. Daniels completed a hat-trick when he had son and father Charlie and Sean Hallas out both adjudged lbw.

George Ridings was next to the crease and the pair took the total to 282 when Ridings was out last ball of the allocated overs bowled Hughlet for 60 leaving Skelton not out for a fine 57. The Styal reply was led by Glisher and Vose Jnr against the Greens attack of Josh Nield and Brad Holme

It was the former who struck first when he removed Gilsher, and his reward for this was to be taken off, only Saxton with a quickfire 38 looked capable of a realistic challenge but when

Ridings was introduced to the attack he fell bowled and the remaining batsmen capitulated and were all out for 97.

On Thursday, the Greens 1st XI travelled to Barnton to compete in the Cheshire T20 semi-final and on winning the toss the Greens skipper, Josh Hampson, elected to bat first. Both Hampson, 23 in 17 and Needham 28 in 14 put on 41 for the first wicket when Needham was first to fall.

Next to the crease was Dylan Heginbotham and next to leave was Hampson for 23, 58-2. New batsman Ben Littler and Heginbotham continued taking the attack to the Barnton bowlers and added 68 before the latter fell for 26, 126-3, Heginbotham fell on the same score for an excellent 46. The innings closed on 155. The Barnton reply was led by Cory Devanny and Paul Coot against the opening attack of Needham and Heginbotham and the batsmen took the attack to the bowlers with Devanny the main protagonist.

A change of bowling brought immediate success as first Brad Holme had the dangerous Devanny caught by Needham for 29,48-1, then in the next over

George Ridings removed Coot caught and bowled for 17 both bowlers kept a tight line and Holme removed both Lang and Doyle both bowled and finished with 3 - 19, Messih had Gosnell smartly stumped by Jake Skelton.

The opening bowlers came back with a wicket apiece and the run chase closed tamely on 129.

The Green are through to finals day on September 5.
