IT was finals night of The Frank Beeley Trophy at a sweltering Houldsworth WMC on Sunday evening.

The majority of the field was made up of Yorkshire county players and they looked like having a strong hand in the finish.

In the last eight New Mills hopeful Luke Guess found his good run in the competition slipping away against Ashley Daykin.

Despite a mini revival it was the Yorkshireman that held sway to stave off Guess 31-22. The other three matches all went with current form as Ryan Clark defeated Chris Mordue 31-22.

In-form Jack Dyson saw off a very spirited effort from Lloyds Hotel bowler Nathan Brown to win 31-25. The remaining winning quarter-finalist was Josh Mordue, who was just too strong for Liverpool’s Anthony Thompson.

The semi-finals began with all one way traffic from Daykin as he readily dismissed Josh Mordues challenge to win 31-18. The final was to be an all Yorkshire full county affair as Dyson secured an eight chalk win over Ryan Clark.

The earlier games had Daykin in slightly better form but it didn’t work out like that on the green. Jack

Dyson hoovered up the first prize with a ten chalk victory to lift the coveted event with a 31-21 victory.

Hadfield Bowling club held its first ever major sweep and results went with local knowledge and form.

Jack Holland has been in a purple patch this season and was a popular winner defeating New Mills Phil Clapham in the final.

Also last weekend the quarter-finals of Cheshire’s Brunner Cup took place over a six at home six away format.

Houldsworth cantered past Comberbach to book a semi-final spot and continue to be favourites for the trophy.

Game of the round saw Castle Sports and Lloyds Hotel share six winners each with the side from Northwich progressing by 12 chalks.

That result for Castle sets up a local derby in the semi-finals with rivals Wharton Cons.

In the other half of the draw Houldsworth will play Frodsham as the event moves back to neutral green matches.

On Saturday it’s the final of the Nursery Classic sweep at Green Lane at 5.30pm.
