It’s hoppy days as giant frogs march into town

GIANT multi-coloured frogs have once again hopped into Stockport for this year’s summer trail.

The town first welcomed the amphibious attractions two years ago, with the likes of ‘Strawberry Frog’ and ‘Midas’ attracting visitors from far around. Now the town is hoping to pull in the crowds once more - with 21 brand new designs.

A highlight of this year’s trail is expected to be Stockport Spiderfrog, based on the popular Marvel character Spider-Man.

The Gigantic Leap Frog Art Trail will officially launch at an event hosted by Totally Stockport at the Light cinema on Friday.

The frogs will be on display at various town centre locations until September 26.

And as well as the trail, there will also be 17 frogs placed across the whole borough.

Organised by Stockport’s Business Improvement District (BID) - branded as Totally Stockport- it’s hoped the trail will give businesses a boost before the frogs are auctioned off later this year to raise money for St Ann’s Hospice, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Stockport BID manager Paul Taylor said: “To say everyone has been through a difficult time is an understatement. Now it’s time to get back into our town centre and what better way to celebrate than with another brilliant trail that’s even bigger and better than before.

“The artists have done a fantastic job.

“And, just like last time, organisations have got involved by sponsoring a frog, planning frog-related activities throughout the summer including the schools Gigantic Leap Activity programme.”

Supporting the art trail are sponsors Amstone, Carecall, Floreeda, Girlguiding Stockport, Holiday Inn Express, Marketing Stockport, Merseyway, musicMagpie; Nexperia, Orbit Developments, Robinsons Brewery, Simon Charles Auctioneers, St Ann’s Hospice, Stockport County, Totally Stockport and the Vernon Building Society.
