Ben hits target with 126 holes

- GOLF BY GEOFF GARNETT

BEN Thompson, the former manager at Sale Golf Club and now a PGA teaching professional at Romiley Golf Club, completed a 100-hole marathon at Sale in 2020 to support the Captain’s Charity of CRV and raised £4,000 for his efforts.

On the day a Sale member bet him to do more holes and possibly chase the British record of 152 holes.

Ben said: “I decided to do 126 holes and support Sale Captains Kevin Moore and Mathilda Botman’s chosen charity of DSA (Downs Syndrome Association) with the aim of raising £2,000.

“I chose to play on my own to speed up play supported throughout the day by Kevin who supplied me with refreshments and conversation.

“I started at 4.30am and with a half-hour break finished at 4.30pm with scores of 69,69,71,70,74,65,70.

“I felt physically fine at the end but my feet were in agony and my back was shot to pieces. 126 holes followed by eight pints was a good enough celebration to me. I may do 144 holes one day but not any time soon!

“To date I have raised around £1,600 and counting

“I want to thank everyone who has donated so far and anyone else wanting to donate can do so on this website – justgiving.com/ fundraising/ben- thompson38.
