COUNTY SUPPORTERS COOPERATIVE

- BY IAN BROWN

THINGS have really started to move in a really positive direction on the Supporters Cooperative and ‘Help the Hatters Danny Bergara Statue’ initiative.

Firstly, the fund has topped £7,000 in no time at all.

The target of £50,000 is a long way off, of course, but it is very early days, and we are considerably encouraged by the responses from all over the County family.

The mainstay of the effort just now is the donations from supporters, but we are not allowing ourselves to sit back and rely on just that element, important as it is, much else is happening.

We were making an effort to start contacting former County players, particularly those who would have played under Danny, but before we could begin on this road the players beat us to it with a clutch of donations and heart-warming messages from Tony Dinning, Mike Flynn and Kevin Francis.

That was simply excellent.

We plan to run a lightning series of our popular ‘Make Us An Offer’ efforts and the first of these ended on Thursday, June 22, and raised over £400 – which will go straight to the appeal fund – as will all proceeds from the sale of our ‘Football Fixture Calendar 2021-22’ which is out this week. These can be obtained on matchdays from a Cooperative board member.

In addition, after a year’s break due to Covid restrictions, we are promoting and organising the north west’s top trail/ road half marathon on September 5 – Stockport Hatters Half Marathon – and we are diverting all this year’s income from this source from the Guardian Account to the statue appeal.

Lots of other events are pending, including SCAN’s 96-97 reunion probably at EP, it should be a belter!
