Slip road ‘is UK’s most dangerous’

-

MOTORISTS are dubbing a Stockport road the “most dangerous” slip road in the UK.

A viral TikTok of the M60 junction between Bredbury and Stockport has commenters debating how treacherous the road really is.

It is reportedly one of only several slip roads in England where cars immediately merge with the fastest lane of traffic.

Thousands of people have taken to the comments to share their views.

One user said: “M60 Bredbury/Stockport junction towards Bury, absolute nightmare and too many lost lives.”

Another said that she refuses to use the slip road, while someone else complained that someone crashed into the back of her at the junction.

“Always gives me shivers,” said another.

The junction was originally intended to be a motorway cross-roads, joining two non-existent pathways that would continue east and north.

But the plans never came to fruition, and drivers were left with a slip road joining the motorway at its fastest point.

Commenters also pointed out the danger for HGVs, which are usually not allowed in the right-hand lane of motorways.

However, not everyone thought the road was particularly dangerous. One user said: “It’s where I live! Remember this being built. Never actually had any problems getting on it since it was built”.

Another said: “It’s a long straight slip so it’s not bad, you got plenty of time to get up to speed.”

And others pointed out other tricky Manchester roads, including the Manchester ring road and Mancunian Way.

“Trafford Centre slip roads are way worse,” said another commenter.

Highways North West declined to comment on the video.
