Service on award shortlist
THE Hospice homeless service has been shortlisted for Greater Manchester’s Health & Care Champion Awards
The GM Champion Awards are the only Greater Manchesterwide awards to recognise those people who regularly go the extra mile to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Greater Manchester.
St Ann’s Hospice, one of the oldest and largest hospices in the UK, have been shortlisted for the award for their innovative Homeless Palliative Care service.
The hospice provides support for people with life-limiting illnesses from its sites in Heald ●●ST ANN’S Hospice has supported countless families across Stockport and beyond for half a century.
In its 50th anniversary year, the Stockport Express is carrying regular features looking at the work and impact of this much-loved
Green and Little Hulton, and a wide range of community and outreach services.
St Ann’s pioneering homeless service is the first city-wide service in Manchester to work hospice that is one of the oldest in the UK.
It operates sites in Heald Green, Little Hulton, and the Neil Cliffe Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital, and has plans for a new hospice building in Heald Green. The hospice is supported by a team of collaboratively with partners who support people experiencing homelessness to provide expertise and care right when it’s needed most.
Rachel McMillan, Chief Executive at St Ann’s Hospice, said: “We’re delighted to be shortlisted as Inclusion Champions.
“We believe passionately in ensuring that anyone – whatever community they belong to – can access hospice care.
“Modern hospice care isn’t just about what happens within the walls of our hospice sites - it’s also about reaching out and going to where the people that need our specialist care are.” more than 350 staff and 700 volunteers.
Alongside its clinical services, it has online and high street shops, as well as a lottery. To mark its 50th anniversary, the hospice will be holding a wide range of activities and events to celebrate this important milestone.
