Ladies get in the pink for charity

AUTUMN is now a regular time for the ladies at Disley Golf Club to get ‘In The Pink’ to raise money for the Lady Captain’s Charity.

Lady Captain Lesley Mott has chosen Breast Cancer Now and the ladies turned out in force in attractive pink attire in their latest competitio­n and raised £395 for the charity.

Ann McCormick was one of the ladies who started the Pink Day five years ago and she is delighted how the event has gone from strength to strength for a small ladies section who again turned out in force to take part and enjoy the day.

More celebratio­ns at Mellor and Townscliff­e as Kim Jackson had her second hole in one on the 11th hole at Mellor following one she got on the a few days earlier. Aces are just like 53 buses in Manchester none come for ages then they all arrive at o n c e ! And yet more celebratio­ns at M and T as the Whittingto­n Plate Greensome Medal Mens Invitation Day to Ladies was won by Jackie Lee and Dave Allcock with a superb nett 66.

Avro seniors showed their adaptable skills in a 5-club Stableford and top of the show with 35 was Andrew Wright from Tom Bagshaw 33 and Bob Holt 31.

A more sedate Midweek Stablefor at Avro had Stephen Callaghan leading in with 37 from Gordon Feathersto­n 35 and Chris Robinson 34.

The Autumn Cup for Houldswort­h’s men was won by a proud Joe Moore with 64 from George Henry and Mark Burton who both went clickety click.

A Wednesday Stableford

at Hazel Grove had division one topped by Raymond Palmer 39 from Gordon Brady 38 and John Tetlow 37.

It was tight in division two with Christophe­r Bailey first past the post with 38, one more than Peter Johnson, Bill Dootson and Peter Allen.

The first Autumn/Winter Stableford at Grove had the divisions led in by Charles Kendall 42, Gordon Brady with a massive 44 and the legendary Bill Dootson 42.

Grove’s ladies were in medal mode and Ruth Lupton led in division one with 74 from Kay Allen 76.

In division two Lindsey Withers posted an impressive 71, two less than Carole Starr and Andrea Haynes.

Kathleen Edwards topped division three with 76 from Catherine Buggy 80.

A Winter League BB medal for Marple’s men was won in style by L Hallas and K Sumner with 60, just one clear of M Walton and J Mellish and D Large and S Henderson.

A qualifying Stableford for Marple ladies was won by Lynne Andrew with an impressive 41, three more than Carolyn Souter and Karen Graham.

A 9-hole Stableford was won by Edna Wright 15, two more than Gillian Buchanan and Florence Coates.

A Three Man Team Bogey at Reddish Vale had the hot trio of C Roberts, A Humphrey and J Wright top of the shop on +8 from D Hayes, T Walker and M Canning +8 and Ryan Jackson, Cole and Luke Parkinson +7.

Tom Walker was in a league of his own in a Wednesday Stableford at Vale posting 44 points to cruise home from James Smith 39 and Andy Turner and Mark Plaskett, both 38.

A Stableford for Stockport’s men was led in by Matthew Knighton with 42 from Mark Johnson 41 and the cool Eddie Frost 40.

A Stand Alone Stableford for Stockport ladies had Jessica Heaton out on her own with 39 from Gill Hudson 32 and Jean Blackie 30.

On a day where nearby areas experience­d tornadoes and thundersto­rms High Legh Park, apart from one heavy shower, provided a sunny haven and a fine course for another great day of Manchester Alliance golf.

The course drew constant admiration from the full field and this was reflected in the high scoring.

Ashton-on-Mersey pro am duo Haydn McCullen and Mark Gauci are proving to be unstoppabl­e and they again led the pro am section with 47 points and while Haydn produced a steady score of 38 points it was Mark who made the difference adding vital points on nine holes.

They were just a point clear of fellow Ashton-onMersey pair of Ollie Pantoja and Josh Corrigan who won a cpo from Jamie Howarth and Paul Robinson (Davenport).

Jamie kept his aim to retain the profession­al Order of Merit title as he led the individual pro scores with 41 points, one more than Alistair Waddell (Chorlton) and Tim Maxwell (Knutsford).

There were new names at the top of the am am section with Flixton’s Bob Barrow and Keith Middleton first past the post with 46 points.

Just a point back were Daniel Ritchie (Pleasingto­n) and Carl Robinson (Wigan) with Phil Cooney (Dean Wood) and Chris Harrison (Leigh) next in with 43.

Ian Ridgway (Disley) (pictured in action) won the nearest the pin prize and High Legh Park Captain Joe Lauder, a scratch golfer, was delighted to see his club provide first class service both on and off the course on yet another enjoyable day for Alliance golf.
