Plans for takeaway at former post office site

-

A FORMER post office could be given a new lease of life as a takeaway.

The shop, in Reddish, is set to be converted into a hot food outlet under plans submitted to the council by applicant Bilal Ashraf.

To be named ‘Burger Beast Takeaway,’ it sits in the middle of a small parade of shops on Longford Road West, flanked by a newsagent and a salon.

Work to convert the empty unit to its proposed new use is now 75pc complete according to planning papers.

A new kitchen is to be installed at the left-hand side of the entrance, with plans for the 140 sqm unit also showing prep, service and customer waiting areas.

As the takeaway will serve grilled food and burgers its potential for kitchen odours causing ‘annoyance’ to neighbours is ‘very high’ according to a specialist report accompanying the application.

However a powerful extraction system is to be installed in order to prevent overpowering smells from causing an issue to residents and neighbouring properties.

The report states: “It is judged that there will not be a significant risk of odour impacts from the proposed takeaway, provided that the extract system is installed, as specified, to provide a high level of odour control.

“There should be no constraints to the development of the site as a take away with regard to odour.”

As the noise made by such a system could also potentially be a source of disturbance, it is to be fitted with a ‘silencer’ to ensure sound is kept at a low level.

“The addition of this silencer to a system will act in the same way a silencer does on a car, so if you’ve ever heard a car with no silencer fitted, this gives you an idea of the impact a silencer can have on a system,” a second report adds.

According to planning the documents the takeaway should create four full-time jobs and one part-time job.

The agent for the application is Salford-based Alpha Design.

A decision on whether to grant planning permission for the change of use will be made by Stockport council.
