Mayor revisits £24m ‘flagship’ housing project

THE mayor has paid a return visit to a £24 million housing developmen­t site.

Councillor Adrian Nottingham, went to view the progress at Great Places’ £24 million flagship housing developmen­t at the former Cranford Golf Centre in Heaton Mersey.

He met members of the project team to view progress at The Poplars developmen­t since attending the official start in May last year.

Cllr Nottingham said: “It was great to see the excellent progress that has been made in the 12 months since I last visited.

“This is clearly a high quality sustainabl­e housing developmen­t in one of our many vibrant local communitie­s and with houses ready to be occupied in the very near future I wish our new Stockport residents every happiness and best wishes for the future.”

He also visited the recently launched sales suite and had the opportunit­y a look around one of the soon to be completed homes.

The Poplars, delivered in partnershi­p with Breck Homes, will provide 106 new homes, a mixture of two, three and four-bed affordable houses and apartments for social rent, shared ownership (available through Plumlife Homes) and a further five homes for market sale (through Cube Homes).

Helen Spencer, Executive Director of Growth at Great Places, said: “We’re delighted to have welcomed back Coun Nottingham for him to view progress on our flagship developmen­t to Stockport, our first in the borough since our merger with Equity Housing Group. Dave Evans, Commercial Director at Breck Homes said: “It was a pleasure to welcome members of the Great Places project team and the Mayor of Stockport Adrian Nottingham back to site for the first time since he officially started constructi­on back in May 2021. The progress and transforma­tion of the site since his first visit has been excellent and we now look forward to delivering the muchneeded affordable homes to customers.”
