Government is trying to save face with strike law
THE Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Bill brought forward by the Prime Minister recently is nothing more than an attempt to save face when the government has completely failed to negotiate with trade unions.
During the pandemic, they were clapped and praised as heroes, now nursing staff and other public sector workers are yet again being shortchanged.
I raised this in Prime Minister’s Questions recently, where I pointed out to Rishi Sunak that he had literally gone from clapping nurses to sacking them.
I am appalled by reports about the poor conditions of Service Family Accommodation, which I raised with the Defence Minister in an urgent question recently.
On the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme, I had the privilege of meeting many service personnel and veterans, but many of them shared with me the poor conditions of their accommodation.
I will continue to raise this until the government properly addresses these issues.
I know that the poor operational standards of the private rail companies continues to blight the lives of so many here in Stockport.
You may have heard me repeatedly call out the poor service provided by Avanti West Coast and I have recently raised similar concerns about the service provided by TransPennine Express.
It has recently been revealed that between September 18 and
November 12 2022, TransPennine Express pre-cancelled between 250 and 450 trains per week through the use of P-coded notices, meaning that thousands of people were left stranded.
P-coded notices were first introduced for cancellations caused by exceptional circumstances, but now appear to be routinely used by private rail operators.
Rather than get to grips with the scandals on our railways, this Conservative government has completely mismanaged the situation, damaging our national and regional economy.
As ever, if you live or work in my Stockport constituency and require support on any issue please do not hesitate to contact me by emailing navendu.mishra.mp@ parliament.uk or calling 0161 480 0833.
