Antoni’s eyeing a repeat promotion
ANTONI Sarcevic believes Stockport County are the side to watch out for in the run in for League Two promotion.
County went into Tuesday evening’s clash against Bradford City at Edgeley Park in tenth spot but just three points behind the seventhplaced Bantams with superior goal difference.
Victory could have seen them move into the playoff places, but regardless of the midweek result, Sarcevic is confident the Hatters can challenge the division’s frontrunners in the closing months of the campaign.
The attacking midfielder, who captained Bolton Wanderers to promotion from League Two in 2021, feels the squad is in a healthy position to replicate that feat come May.
Sarcevic was among the goalscorers last time out for County when they beat Northampton at Edgeley Park – Saturday’s clash at Crewe was postponed due to a frozen pitch – and he said: “The gaffer had laid down a marker for us in the next seven games, so it was nice to kick off with a big three points Goals have been a part of my game throughout my career and the gaffer spoke to me at the start of the season and told me he expects me to hit certain numbers.
“If I score every week it’s a bonus, but it’s really down to the wins and making sure we keep climbing the table.
“We’ve signed well, we have good players and good characters coming into the building and I feel like it’s made for a good end to the season and I feel like we can carry on with this form and we’re the team to look out for.
“We’re Stockport County and pushing for promotion is what we want to do.
“We’re an ambitious club looking to get up the leagues and it’s down to the lads now in the dressing room to make sure we do what we did at Northampton and lay down little markers for everyone to look out for us.
“There will be twists and turns every weekend, there’s a big chunk of the season to go and it’s down to us now to stay levelheaded.
“We are full of confidence and we’ll take it game by game.”
