Will month showed Imelda write way to help
IMELDA Lowe from Sale has been a volunteer for St Ann’s Hospice for five years. She took part in last year’s St Ann’s Hospice Will Month and reflects on how grateful she is for the opportunity to re-write her will with the hospice in mind.
Imelda first saw St Ann’s Will Month advertised at the Heald Green site where she volunteers.
“I had wanted to re-write my will for a long time and this seemed like an ideal opportunity.
“The pack of information that the fundraising team at the hospice provided for me was really helpful. We got all the information we needed, and we could choose our own solicitor, which is really important.
“We got so much of the solicitor’s time for the suggested donation, and it was a completely pain-free process.
“The solicitor was local, which made it really easy to sign documents.
“We had an initial chat with the solicitor to make sure they were the right fit, then completed lots of the process online – it was so easy.”
Imelda has supported St Ann’s Hospice as a volunteer in their inpatient unit and from home using her experience in project management. She has enjoyed being in a patient-facing role at the hospice, having previously volunteered at the Christie too.
She said: “I wanted to take part in Will Month, instead of re-writing my will another time, to support St Ann’s.
“It’s been a tough time to fundraise, so it’s a way of being able to give a donation now instead of the money being spent elsewhere.
“We also decided to leave a gift to St Ann’s in our will, which is a great way to support the hospice into the future too. I would really recommend taking part as it’s so simple and easy. It’s not just an online will-writing service; you can make your will with the participating solicitor of your choice, and St Ann’s benefit.”
