Reddish Vale legend honoured by county
DAVE Sanders has been a true legend of Reddish Vale Golf Club for many years serving in a variety of roles including Captain and secretary.
He has also been involved with the Manchester Captain’s Association and Cheshire County in various roles putting in many hours supporting his club and golf at all levels.
Dave’s outstanding service to golf was recognised at the Cheshire Union of Golf Clubs Annual Dinner at The Mere Resort.
The CUGC had introduced several new awards and Dave was the first recipient of the ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ and he was presented with his award by the CUGC President Martyn Grimley to the delight and appreciation of the Reddish Vale members who attended the dinner,
There was plenty of action on the course at Reddish Vale with a Two from Three Team Stableford led in by the trusty trio of J Wall, N Crewdson and S Waite 63 from R Harper, S Bowden and P Moores 62 and J Marley, R Naber and J Elphick 60.
Round four of the Vale Seniors Stableford was won by Richard Pennington 42 from Alan Malone41 and Edward Burke and Mike Tarver, both 40.
The Vale Winter Order of Merit Greenkeepers’ Christmas Box BB Pairs had R Armstrong and J Sissons on top with 52 from K Ramsden and D Platt 49 and S Dickinson and D Breen 46.
A 12-hole Stableford at Stockport was won by Manchester Alliance star Ross Birch 29, from Alan Sadler 26 and Andrew Given and John Delany, both 25.
A 9-hole Stableford at Hazel Grove was close with Ian Walters first past the post with 21 from Richard Major and David Walters 20 and Ian Barwell, Graeme Butcher, Philip Jordan, Mark Cookson and Ash Dunn, all 19.
A Midweek Stableford at Marple was won by Bob Allcock after a cpo on 26 with Stephen Rogers, one more than Simon McBride with Jay Hayes and Mike McPhee next in with 24.
Marple’s ever-busy seniors played a Stableford and in division one Anthony Clark was the main man with 28 from Colin Fielden 27 and Martin Burke 25.
Tom Barton romped home in division two with 30, three more than Keith Wigley and Peter Hodson.
The midweek Stableford at Avro saw Chris Yule win a cpo on 35 from Chris Robinson with Michael Peters 34 and Kevin Barker and Neil Flood, both 33.
A Seniors 7-club 16-hole Stableford at Avro was also close with Dave Kettlewell winning a cpo on 35 from Royce Lowis, one more than Paul McKinney.
The Manchester and District Golf Alliance, the biggest golf organisation of its kind in the country who will be celebrating their Centenary in 2024, has done the draws for its Inter Club Matchplay Knock Out competitions.
The blue riband event is the Dunham Forest Trophy with nearly 90 clubs in the field with the club professional and six top amateurs aiming to reach finals day at Dunham Forest GC in September. The current trophy holders are Ashton-on-Mersey GC and they are in preliminary round action with a tough trip to Dukinfield where big mates club professionals Kris Andrews (AoM) and Dave Green. will relish their head-tohead encounter
Local clubs also in the preliminary round are Disley v New Mills, Hazel Grove v Chorley, High Legh Park v Buxton High Peak, Heyrose v Romiley, Houldsworth v Lymm.
Through to round one with byes are Bramhall, Bramall Park, Heaton Moor, Marple, Mellor and Townscliffe, Stockport.
