COUNTY SUPPORTERS COOPERATIVE
THE process of erecting a magnificent bronze statue in memory of County hero Danny Bergara, outside Edgeley Park is moving swiftly on into the final stages with all involved really happy with progress.
A recent meeting between the Stockport County Supporters Cooperative board, the Bergara Family and our sculptor Hannah Stewart resulted in a unanimous decision to sign off the design work for the statue.
Only very small details needed to be attended to after the meeting and these have now been sorted clearing the way for Hannah to pass the clay statue to the foundry for casting into bronze.
We are delighted to confirm that this happened on Monday of this week 6th February!
As previously indicated, the statue will be unveiled at the final game of the season against Hartlepool on Monday 8th May so prepare to be amazed and pleased with the result of Hannah’s brilliant efforts which we are convinced will be a popular Stockport landmark for years to come as well as a fitting tribute to a great man.
We continue to fund raise to cover essential costs around the erection and siting of the statue, and in this respect we would like to thank Stockport Express reader Stuart Bruce who donated two fine match worn County shirts to our auction in support of the statue appeal- a great gesture Stuart!
Elsewhere we received confirmation that, as promised via this column previously, Stockport County Supporters Cooperative member and friend of Help the Hatters Andy Pickford has bungee jumped off the Victoria Falls bridge in Zimbabwe in support of Francis House Childrens Hospice.
We would like to congratulate Andy on this brave achievement and wish him every success in his fund raising on behalf of the magnificent Francis House Childrens Hospice.
