Captains unite to drive golf club fundraising

-

BRAMHALL Golf Club have raised a huge amount of money over the last 12 months for St Ann’s Hospice, which is the first donation for their new milestone.

Mr Captain, Peter Thompson, and Lady Captain, Pat Marriott, chose St Ann’s Hospice as their charity when they became captains last year and are supporting the Build It Together appeal for the new hospice building.

St Ann’s recently hit their target of £500,000 out of the £2m that needs to be raised to fund the new hospice.

Now, they are working towards their next milestone £750,000 which has had its first contribution by Bramhall Golf Club.

In total the Golf Club has raised £6,782 for St Ann’s Hospice and celebrated their fundraising with a cheque presentation from the fundraising team.

Peter Thompson says: “My wife Margaret volunteers at St Ann’s Hospice and her dad died there a few years ago so like many people who live locally, we want to support them with the brilliant work they do.

“It was a no brainer to choose the hospice and with myself and the Lady Captain choosing the same charity, we’ve been able to double the money raised as normally this would be split between two charities.”

The Captain and Lady Captain organised many events throughout the year. The main event they put on was the AM/AM, a major competition where guests are invited to play. Peter says “We raised a lot of money through this event, the golf club doesn’t charge entry for the competition so all money on the day went to St Ann’s.”

The golf club has also organised afternoon teas, cake stalls and tombolas as part of Ladies Charity Day, which all went towards the incredible total. Sarah Wolstenholme, events fundraiser at St Ann’s Hospice, said: “We are delighted to have received such a generous donation from Bramhall Golf Club.

“They held many brilliant events that got people from the area raising money and raising awareness of why we are in such urgent need of our new hospice.

The cheque presentation was a great way to celebrate the success of the golf club over the past 12 months.

“Every donation goes towards the new hospice we are building at Heald Green and really does make a difference.”
