TUESDAY evening last week was very cold definitely not the night to stand out for long periods and it turned out to be a bad night for County’s promotion push as, with temperatures plummeting further, they were limited to just one point in a disappointing 0-0 draw at Edgeley Park.
It was the writer’s turn to occupy the Supporters Cooperative position on the Grassy Knoll next to the Cheadle End turnstiles between 6.15pm and 7.15pm and whilst I approached the session, which I have done many times previously, with some trepidation with one eye on the weather forecast in the event, despite the cold, the hour passed pleasantly.
I was helped along by the County supporters who took the time out to greet me or better to engage in meaningful discussion on a variety of matters.
The subject mattered not if it was of concern or interest to County supporters and they wished to hear our views or obtain our help, that is what we are there for.
The Grassy Knoll has become an essential mini hub and point of contact between the Supporters Cooperative board and supporters be they members or not.
With that in, mind and with supporters still remembering fondly the former cabin on the Cheadle End Car Park, we approached the Club recently to ask if something similar could be erected on the Knoll at no cost to the Club.
This may or may not be possible but it is gratifying that we have had preliminary discussions with Club representatives on the subject and they have indicated a willingness to give the matter due consideration.
We are also awaiting news from the Club on the possibility of a jointly organised ‘Fans Forum’ and a meeting between Club and Supporters Cooperative boards.
We will advise further when we can.
