Entries invited for one of biggest prizes

- BOWLS JAMIE BRAMLEY

THE Fleetwood Waterloo is looking for players to enter and have a go at winning one of bowls biggest prizes.

Last season saw the competition take place for the first time at its new home at Fleetwood Bowling Club.

The event was a success but caused some controversy after moving from its former home in Blackpool.

Sadly the Waterloo Hotel is now consigned to the history books after a deal to save the Bowls stadium fell by the wayside around 18 months ago.

The competition has moved on block to Fleetwood but after a good amount of entries last season is struggling a bit more for numbers this campaign.

The cost of living crisis combined with less bowlers entering sweeps has not helped Mark Mills The Bowls Manager and his team.

Competitions need support before they are lost and anybody interested in entering should contact Mark on 07305 768 810.

There are numerous events including the big prizes of the Spring and Autumn Waterloo’s on the table.

Other events include the Junior Waterloo and several pairs events also on the horizon.

The greens last year were in good order for the first time they have hosted such vast numbers of bowlers.

The game in general needs a boost but Mark, from Stockport himself, would love to see more entrants from his home town.

The Spring Waterloo starts on Saturday April 8th and various other dates are also available to select including some midweek qualifiers.

The venue is ideally located right beside Fleetwood tram stop and numerous Cafes, and the sea front is just a stones throw away. The historic Waterloo title lives on but at a new venue it still carries all the prestige of bygone years. Last year’s winner was Paul Dudley from Radcliffe could this year be the turn for a Stockport based winner.

The event also has a Facebook page and a website to keep in touch with all the events throughout the 2023 season.
