- GOLF GEOFF GARNETT

HEATON Moor Golf Club’s new Captain John Wheeler has great affiliation with Stockport County FC.

He is a lifelong supporter and in his younger days he played for Stockport Boys, Stockport FA and was signed by County as a 15-year-old schoolboy. He began his golf at Heaton Moor in 1989 for a brief spell then returned eight years ago and is ready to give his all for the club.

“My favourite hole at the club is the 18th – because it is the nearest to the bar!

“My favourite course, other than Heaton Moor, is Wallasey.

“As well as supporting Stockport County I enjoy holidaying and walking and my chosen charity is Alzheimers UK and I will be looking to play four times a week.

“My own golfing highlight is winning the President’s Prize at Mellor and Townscliffe GC in their Centenary Year in 1994.
