COUNTY SUPPORTERS COOPERATIVE BY IAN BROWN
THE Supporters Cooperative board were extremely pleased to hear from Race Director John Giles this week that, having obtained the necessary permissions and approvals, we can announce through the Stockport Express that once again we will be staging the Stockport Hatters Half Marathon this year.
It will be the eighth time the Cooperative has organised and promoted this superb road/ trail half marathon which is now firmly established as one of the nation’s favourite road/ trail races.
Each of the previous seven years of the event have been roaring success stories and we expect no less this year as runners from the length and breadth of the UK and beyond line up outside Edgeley Park at 9.30am on Sunday 3 September, some to seek prizes others just to enjoy a fantastic race.
Ahead of them will be a challenging scenic route that joins the Trans Pennine Trail at the Woolpack Bridge and follows the Mighty River Mersey, that roaring splendour that in times past served as the border between the ancient kingdoms of Mercia and Northumbria and more recently Lancashire and Cheshire.
On race day the River Mersey along with some very good trail paths together with our top class race day organization and friendly marshalling team provide an enjoyable running experience for the hundreds who resolve to don their running shoes and take up the challenge.
Entries are now open for this year’s race priced at £22 for affiliated runners and £24 non- affiliated and to enter you should visit runbritain.com/ entries or, if you are feeling less energetic but would like to enjoy the magic of Stockport’s Hatters Half
Marathon just turn up at Edgeley Park in time for the 9.30 race start and / or at Alexandra Park for the exciting finish of the race.
