MORE information has been revealed about when people will be able to see a Lancaster bomber flying in May.

Earlier this month, it was confirmed a British Second World War bomber would fly over the skies of Stockport as part of the town’s inaugural soapbox derby.

The Totally Stockport Krazy Races, taking place in the town centre, has been chosen to become part of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight on Sunday, May 28.

The Lancaster Bomber that will be flying over Stockport is only one of two remaining planes still in operation. The huge aircraft, played a major role in the Bomber Command during the Second World War, and organisers are expecting thousands to come out for a chance to witness the flight and the free-to-attend soapbox event.

Organisers have now confirmed the timings of the flyover and shared an exclusive first look of the race map.

The Krazy Races will take place from 10.45am onwards on Sunday, May 28, and run until 6pm, while the flight will pass over Stockport at around 1.05pm depending on weather and flying conditions.

Spectators will be able to see the famous Second World War bomber flyover Stockport town centre from the area covered on the race map, which includes St Peter’s Square, Mersey Square, Stockport Plaza and the air raid shelters.

There will be no racing between 1-2pm, allowing those in attendance to grab lunch and watch the flyover.

Organisers have also confirmed the route map and approximate timings for the day. The 40 teams taking part will first race at 11am, before afternoon heats to decide the winner.

At 10.45am, the Krazy Kart will be sent down the track in a procession style, joined by the Krazy Dog mascot and children’s charity and mascots from When you Wish upon a star.

At 11am, soapboxes will go one by one down on the track with each team performing a 20 second music performance piece before launching themselves down the track.

Teams, which includes Stockport Gin and Shopblocks, who have fashioned their kart to look like a Fred Perry Shoe, will have to make it down the 350-metre course by successfully navigating a number of chicanes, obstacles and water challenges.

Competitors will also work their way through a knockout-style competition with only the fastest ten cars making it through to the final, which takes place from 4.30pm.

As well as crowing the overall winner and runners-up, prizes will be given for best-designed kart, sponsor’s choice, most entertaining team and best team.

On the day there will also be a giant digger in the pit area for families to visit, plus street food, and the Robinsons Brewery horses will also make an appearance.

Danny Scoffin-Head of Marketing for Sarah Belcher Events & Krazy Races commented: “We are so excited to be bringing our free to attend event to Stockport in May.

“The response since launching last year has been beyond our expectations.

“Our founder and director Sarah Belcher has done an incredible job securing the Lancaster Bomber Flyover and we are so grateful to our event partners at OCU, Robinson Brewery and our headline charity ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ who will all be sprinkling some extra magic on the event in the form of a giant Digger photo opportunity, the breweries beautiful shire horses and some special activities from the charity.

“We would also like to say a special thank you to Totally Stockport BID (Business Improvement District) and Stockport Council for all their support bringing us into Stockport. We have the teams, now we need the amazing people of Stockport to come out in force on the 28th to cheer on your favourites!”
