COUNTY SUPPORTERS COOPERATIVE BY IAN BROWN

AS the moment nears it is becoming more and more difficult to focus on anything other than next Monday’s unveiling of the Danny Bergara Statue.

We gave details last week of when and where top line sculptor Hannah Stewart’s life-sized bronze tribute to the great man will at last see the light of day, and you will by now, I hope, have 10am Monday 8 May in the Cheadle End Car Park in your diary!

Much has gone on since the Stockport County Supporters Cooperative launched the statue idea and the campaign and appeal that was then to drive this wonderful notion on to reality.

The Cooperative and the Bergara Family have worked closely together throughout the process, liaising with Hannah Stewart as and when necessary, and I must say a happier and more positively motivated group of people would be extremely hard to find in my view, and on May 8 the people of Stockport and the world will be able to enjoy the results of this most excellent cooperation.

Apart from the big reveal of the unveiling, much else awaits on the day.

A superb video on the statue has been put together by videographer David Wright which takes you through all the various processes (initial sketch, clay build, mould build, ceramic shell, bronze pour, fettling & chasing and patination).

This will be shown on the day, hopefully in hospitality and around Edgeley Park and will also be available via social media, message boards and other platforms after the Hartlepool game, and of course there will be a report and images to view in the Stockport Express hopefully.

So, when Mr Cesar Rodriguez Zabala, Uruguayan Ambassador to the UK, reveals the statue to the world, will you be there ?
