Stockport Express

So it all comes down to final day reckoning

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

LEYTON Orient 0-3 Stockport County, just wow!

A score line that many would have seen and raised an eye-brow at.

Not the travelling faithful, we were in a confident mood, undefeated in 10 and playing for something tangible. Orient, on the other hand, had already won the League by beating Mansfield four days earlier and by the looks of their performance on Saturday, had been on the beer ever since.

The Fingerpost Flyer left at 8 o’clock with a full contingent for a pretty straight forward journey but ,as so often when travelling to London, well made plans are often scuppered so with problems on the M11 our driver took us on a sightseeing trip, not the usual monuments or palaces but the lesser sights of Chingford, Walthamstow and Leyton. I’ve never seen so many take-aways in such a short stretch of road!

We pulled into Brisbane Road to the sight of Blue shirts everywhere and it became very clear that this was going to be a monumental fixture, if only the team could match our passion there’d be no problem.

They did and there wasn’t.

From the offset County pressed and scored after just 5 minutes, a Chris Hussey cross was met by the powerful head of Akil Wright.

The away section was in full voice the home sections were quiet.

Five minutes later Tanto Olaofe laid off the simplest of balls to Callum Camps who, with the deftest of shots, scored our second from the edge of the box.

Pandemonium amongst the away support and utter bewilderment from the Londoners who’d come for a party!

The “champions” had to raise their game but the Blue shirts covered and cancelled out every opportunity they tried to create.

Ryan Croasdale bossed the mid-field (player of the season for me) while at the back Fraser Horsefall and Joe Lewis were simply outstanding. Joe has had his critics during the season but on Saturday he forced those doubters to reconsider their words, he was magnificent and let nothing pass him.

The home side had much more possession than we did but they came across a team in County who had something to play for and it was no surprise when, on the break, we scored our third.

Another beauty of a cross from Hussey found Connor Evans who glanced the ball past a helpless keeper. As we were celebrating great win news of Northampton’s late loss filtered through.

The noise levels went through the roof as we’re still in with a chance of automatic promotion.

If you want an easy life, don’t follow County, we only do things the hard way!
