Drinks are on Chie after her hole in one

CHIE Kayaba, a member of Bramhall Golf Club, has been playing golf for 17 years and celebrated her first-ever hole-inone in style at her beloved club.

Chie was playing in a Mixed competitio­n with her husband Cho and playing partners Brenda Bruce and Danny Margetson when the drama happened on the 14th hole.

Chie, who plays off 25.4 handicap, said: “The par three hole is 125 yards long and I used my four wood off the tee.

“The ball went straight down the middle, stayed true and just dropped into the hole.”

Bramhall Lady Captain Kath Ince is a close friend of Chie and she said: “Chie bought all of the ladies a drink after the ladies competitio­n a few days later and talked us all through the ace in Japanese at the Evening Dinner after the mixed competitio­n.

“I was playing in the competitio­n up the 16th fairway and heard the yell ‘Sago’ the Japanese for ‘Hurrah’ and she said afterwards that it was a lovely feeling to get her first ace and we all cheered for her.”

A midweek Stableford at Avro had Chris Robinson in a league of his own with 39 from Kevin Barker and Steve Jones, both 32.

Avro legend Vic Tarr led in a seniors Stableford with 37 from James McKie 36and Peter Walker and Paul McKinney, both 34.

Avro ladies played for the Davis Cup and it was won by a proud Kirsty Balderson 35 from Anne Cawood31 and Ruth Arthur 30.

The 9-hole winner was Helen Jervis 16.

A ladies medal at Cheadle saw Lady Captain in control with 65 from Jo Taylor 68 and Louise Wildgoose 73.

A medal for Cheadle’s men had division one won by Alan Simmons after a cpo on 63 with Jim Walker.

In division two it also needed a cpo on 68 to see Jan Elliott win from Martin Broomhead.

The third round of the Seniors Shield at Disley was won by Bill Wyatt35, one clear of John Russell and John Collier.

A pro’s Stableford at Disley had the divisions led in by Ray Timmins 39, Steve Walmsley with a hefty 42 and Andrew Sweeney 41.

Disley juniors played for the Brian Clamp Trophy and it was won by George Bull 39, four more than Liam Greene.

Disley ladies played a second Shanghai medal qualifier and Gaynor Calvert led in with 68 from Annastasia Codd 70 and Sally Gorrie 71.

Heaton Moor ladies were also in medal mode with Pauline Poole winning a cpo on 74 from Julie Stonehouse with Claire Whitney a shot back.

Moor’s men played for the Ralph Harrison Trophy and Mike Curley was a clear winner with 64 from judo legend Martin McSorley 67 and John Gough and Alan Brierley, both 68.

New Mills ladies played the first round of the Warren Cup and Joyce Hadfield set the pacewith 33, from Brenda Grimshaw and Alison Rudder, both 27, the 9-hole winner was Jane Gee 17, one more than Christine Currie.

It was close in a midweek Stableford at New Mills with Paul Bowers winning a cpo on 37 from Nathan Burrows, one more than Allan White.

The Opening medal at New Mills had the divisions led in by Jack Miller 63, Tim Sigley after a cpo on 63 with Dan Hearsum and Chris Cooke 66.

A Stableford for Gatley’s men was won by Colin Hardman 41 ahead of Simon Wardle 39 and Phil Rodman 36.

Gatley ladies played a Stableford won by Anne Seel after a cpo on 28 with Pamela McKean and the nine-hole winner was Valerie Griffiths 11.

The Victory Cup at Romiley was close with a cpo on 38 won by William Whittaker from Sam Hibbert, Thomas Ormerod and Paul Himsworth.

Romiley ladies played the Nellie Oldham Par and Denise Booth won a cpo on level handicap from Lynn Schofield with Teresa Hogg next in with -3.
