COUNTY SUPPORTERS COOPERATIVE

BY IAN BROWN

-

STILL enjoying the warm afterglow of the post statue unveiling, the Supporters Cooperative Board met this week to review matters and plan for the future.

The statue project went very well indeed, and we are still enjoying the feedback from County supporters who obviously share our delight at Hannah Stewart’s superb statue, and also from Uruguay where press coverage has been nothing short of unbelievable!

It was good to look back with satisfaction on the result of our efforts, but we also have to plan for the future and in this respect, there was much to discuss.

Membership had received a small but welcome boost following the statue unveiling but we agreed that our primary goal in the immediate future would be to focus on building membership further and one of the first decisions taken was to look to stage an event specifically for young County supporters.

A decision as to the date for that event was deferred, but we already know the date of our flagship event the Stockport Hatters Half Marathon is Sunday 3 September.

It is the eighth time we have promoted and organised this immensely popular road and trail race, and planning is going brilliantly with a sponsor in place (Colourtone Ltd), medals about to be ordered and many of the permissions now sorted we already have 49 entries!

Other events planned include a possible evening involving some players from Jim Gannon’s 2007-8 winning League 2 play-off final team, and the board agreed to have a presence at the Stockport Pride event in the Market area on 30 July.

But with boosting membership in mind. we are hoping that our recent contacts with the Club will result in finding us a matchday presence within the County Courtyard.

That would be good!
